As a Flash developer, I'm delighted that Chrome automatically installs Flash Player updates. What I'm not delighted about is that I can find no way of having it install the DEBUG version of the player, which is essential to my needs.

Is there a way that I've missed? If not, then please accept my urgent request to have a tick-box option for auto-update using the debug version of the player.

Hello,
I'm trying to figure out a way to get to know of new, upcoming releases/versions of Chrome.
The thing is, that program that we are working on has to work with all versions of Chrome.
But it has happened a couple of times, when new version of Chrome came out and we started experiencing fails due to incompatibility.
I would be very thankful if anyone could provide me with a way to know of future releases a little ahead of time.

Apple has rejected Google Voice Apps from the App Store. Not only that, they have also removed other Google Voice-related apps that they had previously condoned. Now all of this is rather obvious…

Apple are saying they yanked the Voice apps from the store because they “duplicated” features the Iphone comes with, but wouldn´t specify which features.

That´s probably because it has nothing to do with any duplicated features, but a threat to their profits. Apple relies on carriers to pay them lots of money and those carriers are none too pleased with the new Google Voice app.

Imagine if people didn´t need overpriced carriers and could simply text for free or almost free, get a low fee on long-distance calls, access google search via their phones, where would it all go? Anarchy!

And we could switch carriers easily, without the whole “Can I keep my own phone number, please, or do I have to text everyone I´ve ever met my new number? Again?”-rigmarole. (yeah, emailing those numbers around never works, cause people are too lazy. You have to text everyone you ...

This is hard to explain so I hope you can understand me.

When using Chrome on the system Yuku which is a message board system, I am having problems when posting both replies and new topics.

As I click on the typing area, that typing area will be given an orange border. I then have to manually, using html, have to add line breaks.

It's as if I have chosen to type on an html page.

The wysiwyg editor will not show up on that system either.

Normally on Yuku we simply type as normal but click our html icon in our wysiwyg editor if we wish to use an html page.

Getting an orange border seems as if I have chosen to view a page a specific way yet I haven't.

Hallo,

I often use the saved passwords of my Firefox browser to see and sometimes erase the passwords...only everytime I must go to Tools - Options - Safety - saved password.
I was arguing if there is a way to insert a link in the toolbar to simplify and speed up this task.

I am having problems getting a dropdown menu which uses javascript onchange to fire raiseevent, though it works fine on firefox and IE. I am having trouble isolating the code to describe fully on this forum, but I have proven that it is something to do with raiseevent (because you can substitute a call to alert, and there is no problem). The code below illustrates the problem, but I have not included the raiseevent code or the switch statement (for which one of the case statements is SelectProject) as its rather involved. If contributors need to know more, I will try and include snippets of code.

Sometimes, when I am scrolling, areas of text briefly become highlighted in yellow. The yellow highlighting then quickly fades away (fades, not suddenly disappears).

I cannot deliberately reproduce this behaviour, and I cannot figure out what the point of it could be. Does anybody know what is going on?

I have not been using Chrome that much, as I am waiting until the Google Toolbar features are included, which I am sure will be the case quite soon. I have been using it on sites that are just too slow with IE7, like The Huffington Post.

So, it is only on The Huffington Post main page that I have noticed this happening, so far. I am also using a ThinkPad laptop with a TrackPoint (not TrackPad) which has middle button scrolling. I have added this information, just in case that it is some sort of bug that only happens with this setup.

Can anybody reproduce this behaviour, or know what is happening?

There are certain sites which you would like them to be opened in chrome browser. Example google or gmail. In that aspect, right click the link and click open in chrome window. This is an addon which should be installed in firefox. There is also an option to make the links permanently open in chrome.

You can do the job of monitoring the amount of resources being used for a particular page or the entire page. Right click in the page area and select "Inspect Element". Then move to the "Resources tab" and reload the apge. You can now see a list of images and scripts with objects loaded from the web page. You can also sort them by size.

Here are some of the short cuts and tips to use chrome browser.

Bookmarks
Pressing Ctrl+B Will bring a little bar underneath your search bar with all your bookmarked sites.

Home Page
Pressing Alt + Home will bring up your Google Chrome homepage will thumbnails of the most visited sites from that computer.

Crashed Tab
If your desperate enough to see what a crashed tab looks like then you can type in 'about:crash' and a new tab will appear that looks crashed!

I like the option of a crashed tab. Just try it out. I was not able to paste their thumbnails here.

There is an option to see the task bar of chrome. I do not know whether if you are aware of this news. By this one can find out how much of memory is being used by the browser. Here is the step to do that.

Pressing Shift + Escape will bring up a google chrome task manager, this can be used to quickly close down tabs or just to monitor how much memory the browser is using etc..

I normally use so many proxies while using firefox. But now i often get the problem of not being able to access proxies. I am not able to access any http sites. Only google mail is accessible through this. Is this the problem only for me or many others face this? The problem is some times am able to work efficiently.

Since Chrome is Google's, I would expect it to be super lightweight for the CPU, which it isn't currently. Next I would expect it to display partial views, like in Firefox. It helps some times to just see a particular div or some thing.

My one and only issue with Chrome Beta is the CPU power it eats up. My system becomes some what slow with it. Other than that, I'm pretty comfortable with it. I like the display, the speed and the compact menus.

I'm definitely still very uncomfortable with it. I think it does have lots of potential though, and may eventually become one of the best browsers out there. Until then, I will stick to Firefox for most things.

Not really a big problem but all browsers act differently when closing the last open tab and I kind of got used to Opera leaving a blank page instead of closing the whole window. It'd be nice if Chrome just displayed a blank page showing the usual thumbnails of frequently visited sites instead of closing the whole window.

You can right-click on the forward or back then click on 'Show all history' or just press Ctrl+H and you're shown the history. What I'm seeing right now is you can delete history per day. If anyone can tell me how to delete them all in one shot, that'd be nice.

Oh I didnt have any idea that Chrome have hidden features like task manager since it provides detailed information about computer performances like CPU usage , memory information and also running applications. I wonder if you have more tips in Google Chrome like how to install an add blocker in it? I have found some tutorials ; 1. Install free software Proxomitron. It stays in your system tray and only eats 3MBs of RAM. 2. In Google Chrome go to Options -> Under the Hood and click on "Change Proxy Settings". 3. A new window will open. Click on "LAN Settings", tick "Use a proxy server for your LAN". In the Address field enter "localhost" and for Port enter "8080". Also tick "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" Anyway you can add up more tips or share your ideas on how to help fellow chrome users

Google I think doesnt allow to change the theme by default so what your goign to do is to download google chrome theme. After you have done it is to to extract the “default.dll” file. For Windows XP users you need to extract the file ; Extract it to : C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application.2.149.27\Themes\ For Windows Vista users Extract it to : C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application.2.149.27\Themes\ And then you need to restart your google chrome to see the new theme.

Google chrome is still an open source so they are not offering such features yet. But according to a google representative I think they are planning on creating an extension API. But surely they would not add adblock since google primary income is advertising.

It works perfectly on my copy of Chrome. I am on Vista if that matters. You might be needing to clearing the cache, disabling UAC and maybe try after a reboot. I had absolutely no problems accessing facebook whatsoever!

Because they're made by google, obviously they'll make them to look as if Chrome is trouncing the competition, I mean they must be making use of a particular improvement they made in chrome. I found a minor problem in Google Chrome. In Vista, chrome time to time, sometimes, gives a application has encountered an error, error. To disable it, the best bet is to disable the UAC. That worked for me, and now I'm using Chrome to the fullest of experiences.

Yup, google presently has launched a beta version and this has lots of problems.. As said earlier, that scrolling problem is there and even flash content sometimes does load sometimes it is too slow.. But apart from that .. google has worked nicely on saving cpu ram. Even if i open 10 tabs then also 30-40 mb ram is consumed ... which is much much less as compared to other brower... Browersing obviously is quite fast and secure

Hope launched with a better and improved versions soon to beat rest..

I haven't tried Chrome yet but I have favored FireFox to no end. I'm not so excited about FireFox3 as it is still full of flaws but I certainly prefer it to any other I've tried and I've tried my share of them. I think rather than creating plugins google would like to make sure that you can get the plugin functionality on the site itself somehow. So for something like rss reader thing google would want you to use google reader and since it will be gears enabled you can save the feeds locally and read them.

For each of three days now, I would download chrome anew, it would work fine, I was delighted, and then --- leaving my pc on --- I would turn off my monitor and return to my pc in a few hours.

And guess what, on each of these three days, the chrome icons would disappear, and so --- not finding any shortcuts in my programs (Vista 32 bit) --- I have to download anew.

When your system has 1GB of RAM or less, or when you get low on RAM when you multitask, Chrome seems to hang where FF and IE doesn't. This is a real problem that just makes the browser lag but streaming sites just make this problem worse.

It will hang for 3 or 4 seconds before it's ready to go again while often taxing the hard drive, seemingly trying to access resources. This isn't just a swap file exchange or something, it's really the browser hanging.

When Chrome hangs I can just start up FF and FF will work np, while Chrome is still hanging, so FF and IE are somehow immune to this problem, so it must be related to the browser and not the system.

This happens a lot on streaming video sites.

Has anyone else had this happen?

I'm having a problem with Chrome as it seems to be the only browser that fails to render my website's homepage. The link is http://www.thisismedway.com/ from there it should perform a simple redirect to the home.php page on my site and it does so in other browsers but Chrome returns a 301 error, it return the same error whenever a redirect is perfomed on the site.

It seems that Babylon Translator (IMO the best dictionary tool around) and Chrome are not compatible : once I installed Chrome, Babylon :

1) Would not translate anything in Chrome, and
2) Would freeze after 5 minutes or so.

I have half of a solution for this : after having installed Chrome, uninstall Babylon and reinstall it.

It should not freeze anymore now -- but it still cannot translate anything from Chrome... We'll have to wait for the next upgrade.

I like to leave my work gmail user name and password saved, but I like to type in my personal gmail. When I type in my personal gmail, I get an annoying message saying to "save password" or "never for this site".

I start it via the shortcut in start menu, open a fraction of second the window with the button "Start Google Chrome" and then the window close itself...

Since I started using Chrome, I've noticed that Pandora will occasionally skip or stop in the middle of a song. Any ideas on how to fix this?

When I follow the Google recommended procedure for importing bookmarks and setting, I only get IE in the pull down menu. I've resorted to making a HTML back up of my FF bookmarks, then making a Google Chrome bookmark pointing to the HTML list of my bookmarks.

I've been able to recreate this several times.

I was trying to set my homepage to IGoogle, after I did so, I hit alt+home to test it, worked fine, until I hit the back button to return here. As soon as I hit the back button, Chrome just shuts down, no crash notice. Several times when I relaunched Chrome, there was a notice at the top that 'Chrome did not shut down correctly' with the option to reopen my tabs, but other times, I did not get this notice.

However I am unable to UN-TICK the option for "Use a suggestion service to help complete searches and URL's typed in the address bar" option.

I was able to un-tick this option on my PC however cannot do it on my laptop.

I belong to a couple of message boards where I post and type messages - and I have had letters appear and disappear, I have also had a problem when I have gone in and tried to edit a message as the words just hang up there and will not allow an edit only a complete erase, and starting over.

ALSO I love the feature that spell check is already there but some times when the word is underlined as missspelled it does not work as it should giving you the correct spelling.

Something I noticed FF and IE had that Chrome was lacking was the ability to allow each webpage to choose their own fonts. Am I missing something or does this option not exist.

For instance, if you do a Google search, the links in blue are supposed to be one font size bigger than the description underneath, but for Chrome, it all comes out as one size.

Everyone please understand, this is a beta program and still under development. That being said...

I have a problem getting the windows screen buttons (minimize, smaller window, close) to work properly. They all only resize the viewing window. I am able to close Chrome from the tray. I have tried uninstall/reinstall with no success. Otherwise, no real problems here. I have been using as primary, though not default, browser. Any ideas out there?

I downloaded Chrome the first day it was avaliable and it seemed to work fine the first time I opened it. The next day it wouldn't open for me, so I uninstalled it and tried to install it again. This is the message I get each time I try to reinstall:

Hi all! My first post here will contain some questions and overall thoughts. Feel free to answer any of them.

After using Chrome for more than 10 hours, I'm very happy with it so far.
What I like most is the separate processes and the way to conduct quick searches.

I could easily implement for example newegg.com as a search engine, and to search on their site I just:
- Hit Ctrl+T for new tab, cursor is focused in "omni-bar"
- Type newegg (my keyboard) and hit space
- Type search term
It takes less than a second for me to get to the point where I'm typing the search term. Freakin' awesome!

This is great and all, especially if you write fast and prefer to use the keyboard over the mouse as much as possible. However, I have friends and family that aren't as "typey" as me and they prefer the good ol' google toolbar, or the equivalent in firefox that could take different search engines.

Now, a cool feature is when you open a new tab, that you can see the most used search engines and conduct searches on them from that tab. This ...

I noticed that Chrome doesn't include Google Toolbar. And when I went to see if I needed to re-install it, I discovered that it's only for MSIE & Firefox. There are many things I've come to love about Toolbar, that I don't see built into Chrome. Specifically, I use the spell check when posting (don't you wish more posters did..); autofill; and the way you can jump within a webpage when searching. I hope there will be a version of toolbar coming out in the near future.....

As the heading states.

Checking About Google Chrome under wrench shows there was an update available. Great so updated ask me to close and restarted. Lost my Black theme so go to reinstall it at C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application and there are two folders one for .27 and one for .29 at 43.7 mb each! this can eat up some space quickly.

Anyone else notice this?

I almost dread to ask this but I need some advice.

I have tried FF maybe 3 or 4 times over the last few years and could never get it to work without some serious hitch, so I always ended up going back to IE.

Running IE7.0.6001.18000 now, don't really like it, Vista, like much less. But I was about to download FF3 and try it again when I discovered Chrome. Just about an hour ago. Had not heard of it yet. All those version of FF I have tried in the past I liked, expect for the various bugs and whatnots that finally made me go back to IE, but I am ready to take another stab.

This is not a Ford VS Chevy questions, it's a Ford AND Chevy question. . . . . .

Is there any reason I can't download both FF3 AND Chrome and use them both (not at the same time obviously) for a few days? If I do, are there any cautions or download/transition tricks, tips, or taboos I should know about?

Sure, I like the sleek UI that Google has came up with, (esp. the tabs on the very top with a transparent background) but why not the full screen option? I love watching movies in my browser and call me a perfectionist, but I feel like the experience is compensated when I have a ton of crap above and below. It's distracting. I'm now using Chrome as much as possible, to contribute to the market share of Google Chrome.

However, FireFox is also installed... it still sits and rests for me to use (if chrome has problems with any particular site) the awkward thing is I only want to use Chrome... but my FireFox button has brain burnt into me for the self-automated clicking process we all learn to develop on our desktops (Wait this could be a great new idea, sync desktop application??? go develop it and get rich today!!!)

Every time I want to browse the web like Driving you almost never forget where your gears are, you put the gear into place without thought, and you adjust according to your speed generally based on months if not years of experience, the sound of the engine, and the traffic ahead or if you're about to run a light - the same goes to when clicking the 'FireFox Shortcut Icon' instead of Google Chrome... it's going to take a good 3 months or so before I start to click my chrome icon first, damn you stupid brain?!!!

Checking the proxy settings, it matches up to what I have for my Internet Explorer and Firefox, however, every time I open Chrome and try to go to a web site outside my company proxy, it keeps asking for my login and password.

I can't see the words I googled for in a toolbar so I can "quick find" them.

*Facebook:
Didn't autoforward to new facebook, instead, gave me a "no longer found" error.

*Gmail:
I can't find a Gmail button.

*Back/Forward:
There isn't a mini-menu pulled down to easily go back/forward 5-6 sites with a single click.

When I use sites such as youtube and break. My chrome locks up for 45 - 60 secs.
It happens when I middle click a video to open in a new tab, the video is VERY slow to play, like 3FPS, and then chrome locks up when I close this tab and go back to the video list.

Hi!
I'm trying Chrome for the 1st time today from work (where I do most of my browsing)

it keeps asking to authenticate for the proxy server (never did that in IE or FF)
pages never finish loading!
my own simple home page is a table with 4 columns with links to all the sites I use, it's basic HTML and no fancy code, it loads 2 thirds of the 1st column and then stops, nothing else is loaded, another site I have open all day that refreshes every 5 mins is: http://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/Sport/Football/League+One/Leeds+United this site loads about 1 third of the menu and no content, the menu should be main topics that you hover over to get the sub-menu but I have the whole lot down the side of the page with no formatting or background
other pages just don't finish loading, for example engadget loads but the images only part-load
a music forum I use loads but the CSS doesn't so it looks awful and no backgrounds
EVERY page I view is screwed up, I'm presuming it's to do with going through a proxy server but it isn't good enough when all other browsers work ...

Here are two fixes if you use Symantec Endpoint Protection, which at the moment, Chrome does not work with out of the box.

1. Right click on the Chrome icon and select properties and add "--no-sandbox" to the end of Target
("C:\Documents and Settings\...\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --no-sandbox)

2. Symantec has also posted a fix if you have access to the registry:

1) Back up the registry on an affected system.
2) Open the registry on the Agent system by entering regedit from a run prompt.

5) Change the value to 4 to disable the drivers.
6) Reboot the system to commit the changes.

Is there ANY way to make links open in the same tab?

if im looking through a photo album and I click a photo I want it to open in the same tab and then I'll use backspace to go back and click the next.

on IE7 it behaves like this by default.

on FF I can change an option in about:config to make it do this (used to use tab mix plus add-on)

in safari and opera I can't make it do this (so I don't use them)

Well, I must say that I'm not impressed with the "out of the box" behavior of Google Chrome when browsing the Web. More than once, one of the Chrome's several processes (under WinXP Pro) had gone into a state where it is eating up 100% of my CPU's cycles...and doing nothing obvious to the Web page being displayed.

What can it be doing? I can't tell! Whatever it is takes 10's of seconds to complete.

What seems to set it off is viewing PDF files (scrolling up/down) and/or Flash videos (e.g., YouTube, and manipulating the "slider").

I've ended up killing off Chrome and restarting it, although it also has been possible to wait it out.

Has anyone else observed this behavior?

I also like a more advanced GUI and Chromes GUI is just a little bit lame. Chrome needs more options, toolbars, etc. I do like the bookmark toolbar on Chrome but firefox also has that. I am still a Firefox user and not sure if i will switch over to Chrome. I might think about it if Chrome gets some more themes.

That happened to me also. First I thought it's a minor trouble with my memory so I restarted my PC. Then I tried again and I was like "wtf!?", went to FF and it worked, tried in IE and it worked but it always hanged in Chrome. I don't know what causing the problem but I hope they're going to fix it soon because it's annoying and really ridiculous how two google products are not compatible one with each other.

This makes laugh. They go through the trouble of making stupid videos about how to close the crashed tab while they should be really focusing on preventing a tab to crash. Isn't it so? You're re-inventing the wheel making another browser, why not fixing stuff that went wrong with the already available browsers?

I don't have that kind of problems with goto but I agree with you on the second point. The "browse back" system is really kind of weird and I don't know how the hell could they mess something like this up? They're using one part of Mozilla's (their own code lended to Mozilla) code, aren't they capable enough of writing a solid back button function?

Well, it can all be added/fixed except the privacy. That's my biggest concern and the biggest reason why I don't use Chrome in the first place. Even Matt Cutts admitted Google using our search habbits for their commercial purposes. Screw that.

I agree with you. I used to bookmark everything I ran accross but in the past year or so all I use are maps because they visibly don't take much space and it's more organized this way. That should really be done in Chrome. I'm voting for this feature.

That's why you should use CSS because it can fix all of your problems. In CSS you can add code for both FF and IE for the same call/function. That's how I manage my Wordpress themes although I always optimize my websites for Firefox and don't give a rat's ass about IE.

I'm very much sure this will be available soon on Chrome because it's "the only web 2.0 web browser" and Opera had this feature implemented long time ago. Chrome is fairly new so let's wait for developers to start making add-ons and plug-ins.

i love chrome, and i look forward to the implementation of plugins/addons/extensions for the few things that i need to keep me from firefox (mouse gestures, adblock, etc.)

besides the things that are fixable by that, i've noticed 2 things that really should be addressed (i don't know if they are already.)

1. i would really like for chrome to remember my most recent go to directory. for example, i was saving photos to use as backgrounds from 1 particular website. every time i right clicked and hit save image, it went to the default downloads directory i had specified in the options menu. well, after 20 image downloads, it got pretty old. each and every time i had to browse to the folder from the directory in the default setting. obviously this should be fixed, and i know other programs do it. just go to the last place i've saved files, it's not that hard...

2. straight to example: i'm browsing digg. i click on an article, read the article, then hit back. it takes me to the top of the page. this is wrong. when i do this in firefox, i hit back and ...

You can’t debug with Chrome like you do with Firebug. Chrome is releases for Windows only. The search of sites when you enter the site names in the address is really good. I like this stuff. Sometimes I feel like Chrome browser is crashing or little bit slow I have the same problem from my home computer as well.

Maybe in the future we can tackle the problem of websites that are IE optimized. I am in commercial real estate and there are several websites that I use frequently that are IE optimized. Firefox can trick the website into thinking it is IE, but the website still doesn't work right. My life would be complete if a web browser could handle this problem. haha.

95 MB's isn't big enough? I think firefox only used 30 MB for cache.

Anyone in the know as to how to enlarging the cache size, is there any way to increase this, it seems to hover around the 95meg zone.
